A THOUSAND WORDS FESTIVAL SEPTEMBER 23-24, 2011

A Thousand Words is an Australian literature festival that celebrates children’s stories, brings books out of the classroom and helps to develop a wide-reaching network for readers and writers. We believe in the social act of reading and the power of books to bring us together.

Founded in 2009 by Bec Kavanagh, A Thousand Words festival creates a vibrant forum not only where stories are told and books take centre stage, but also where other art forms help bring stories to life and, above all, where there is ongoing and lively discussion between book lovers of all ages. Read more about the founder of A Thousand Words along with the rest of the 2011 Board at our Board Member Directory.

We believe that there is a book for everyone. Through the festival we hope to create an atmosphere where emerging readers and writers want to make the journey into finding theirs. Our goal is to celebrate children’s stories and the unique place they hold in our society.

Emerging readers will find a place to connect with like-minded people, meet their favourite authors and discover new ways to connect with reading. Reluctant readers will be inspired by the immediacy of the event and will love the inclusion of other activities in addition to reading.
