I read this book a little while ago, and felt the same Truc, not sure what to expect from the cover. But once I was about 10 pages in, I loved it and couldn't put it down!

I actually got a copy from the A Thousand Words Festival, so every time I read it, I think of the festival, and the great time I had.

I would definitely recommend this book to teenage boys, but girls too. It's good for girls to know what boys are thinking about and going through. And I loved that things were not what they seemed, that's a great lesson.

I can't believe anyone could think this was the worst book they've ever read?

Really? The worst?

I doubt it.

This book is clever, and never quite predictable that you will know exactly what will happen. You know somethings going to happen, involving something in particular, but you don't know WHAT, and that pulls you into this novel even more.

There are many twists and turns in this book, and I would hardly call it predictable, and had some really good intense, suspenseful and surprising moments!

A really good Young Adult novel. I wouldn't recommend it for chick-lit fans or older women. This book really has a category of it's own.

Although set in high school, people in their early twenties could also enjoy.

It cost $15, which is really affordable for a book, but it wont take you long to read.

Borrow it from the library unless you're like me and enjoy having a copy of your favourite books, as it can draw you in, and you'll be finished it in no time.

I actually came on the net to see if Em Bailey (an Author I'd never heard of) had any other novels!

The Sandman was one of my favourites because it was the first time I actually ‘got’ a graphic novel. Or Persepolis is brilliant because it’s an autobiography and could easily be compared to something like Looking For Alibrandi if you were thinking in relation to other popular YA novels.

Seriously, honest to ******* god, this was the worst book I have ever read in my life. I can't believe it's getting so many good reviews online. I googled reviews for this book because I thought there would be some hilarious comments and I couldn't wait to read them. Don't waste you're time and money on this predictable garbage.

Great post Lucy!

Pip from Meet Me At Mike's did a post recently on how to record yourself reading a book out loud, so you can send the file to someone.
http://meetmeatmikes.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-make-cute-audio-book-using-your.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MeetMeAtMikes+%28meet+me+at+Mikes%29

Great idea! I've bookmarked the post and will get around to it before my little cousins are too big to want to be read to... I hope!

Ooooh, you've just reminded me - I need to read a graphic novel!

We have to do a reading diary for one of my uni classes, Recreational Literature for Young Adults, reading YA, obviously. And our lecturer encouraged us to read at least one book that is from a genre we don't usually read. And I couldn't think of any!

I'm pretty happy reading crime, literature, fantasy, sci-fi, the whole range really. So I struggled thinking of a type of book I didn't usually read. And this post has given me a 'Eureaka' moment - graphic novels!

Any suggestions for what to start with for a newbie?

That's so true. Graphic novels are an awesome way of getting into reading, and are often unfortunately only limited by a really prescriptive idea of what reading is or should be. I went to see the performance of The Arrival as part of MWF and it was like being taught how to really read and appreciate the story behind a graphic novel rather than staring blankly at the pictures.
Perhaps rather than trying to get family members to read in a particular way, people should learn to expand their own ideas of what reading is.

My dad read 'Moby Dick' and 'The Hobbit' aloud to me - I know how you feel, it must have taken years! But it's my absolute fondest memory. Reading aloud is so underrated - I remember when my old housemate used to read chapters of books to her then boyfriend being horribly jealous that my boyfriend didn't read to me!

And you're so right, it absolutely enhances your understanding of the text, because you're actually hearing every word.
